Sky Sports pundit Gary Weaver has suggested that former QPR boss Mark Warburton could be a good fit for Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheffield Wednesday are without a manager after the club sacked Xisco Munoz earlier this week.
Several names have so far been linked with the Hillsborough opening including the likes Nathan Jones, Neil Warnock, Steve Evans, and Oscar Garcia.
And speaking on the most recent episode of the EFL Podcast, Weaver suggested both Warnock and Jones for Sheffield Wednesday, but also Warburton.
He told David Prutton:
“You even think about Mark Warburton who’s out the game at the moment. He was coaching with West Ham last season and left there in the summer.”
Warburton, 61, is known for spells in charge of Brentford, Rangers, Nottingham Forest, and QPR. He was with QPR the longest, overseeing 150 games during a three-year spell, winning 56 of those games.
He spent last season coaching with West Ham but is now out-of-work, and potentially an option for Sheffield Wednesday.
Warburton previously earned promotion from League One with Brentford during the 2013/14 campaign.
Warburton and Sheffield Wednesday a good fit?
Warburton is certainly experienced. He’s been there and done it in the EFL with Brentford, Forest, and QPR, with mostly positive results.
His time at QPR ended with mixed reviews but given how poorly the club are doing now, it makes Warburton’s tenure look much better.
He left the club in 13th place of the Championship table, doing so on a shoestring budget and whilst playing a nice brand of attacking football.
Of all the names mentioned, Warburton seems like a good option in that he’s experienced enough, but still young enough to have contemporary ideas, with his most recent spell at West Ham having no doubt given him some new thoughts.
