A player Steve Bruce looked at signing for Sheffield Wednesday this summer appears to be on trial at Birmingham City.

Josh McEachran flew out to Wednesday’s Portuguese training camp at the start of July and joined the Owls’ pre-season tour of Germany later that month.

But the released Brentford midfielder was allowed to explore ‘other avenues’ after Lee Bullen took charge on an interim basis in the wake of Bruce’s defection to Newcastle United.

Little has been seen or heard of McEachran since then, but his name appeared on Birmingham’s teamsheet for Monday’s Under-23-team fixture at Bristol City.

McEachran came through the ranks at Chelsea, but moved to Brentford in 2015 after a succession of loan spells.

Should the 26-year-old impress at Birmingham, he could be signed for free at any stage having been without a club at the end of the summer transfer window.

After turning their attention away from McEachran, Sheffield Wednesday eventually recruited the Australian international midfielder, Massimo Luongo, from Queens Park Rangers.
