Norwich City boss David Wagner was full of praise for one Sheffield Wednesday name ahead of their Championship clash.
Sheffield Wednesday welcome Norwich City to Hillsborough for a Championship clash on Tuesday night.
And Owls fans will be hoping it’s another Danny Rohl mastermind under the Hillsborough lights.
The German has given Wednesday fans some memorable occasions in evening kick offs, with games against Leicester City and Birmingham City springing to mind.
Norwich though is a completely different task and another formidable opponent.
The Canaries beat Anglian rivals and title hopefuls Ipswich Town last time out, currently sitting in 6th place of the Championship table.
David Wagner speaks out on Sheffield Wednesday
David Wagner is looking to steer Norwich City to promotion from the Championship, as he did with Huddersfield Town in 2017.
His Canaries side have become sturdy in recent weeks with just two defeats in their last 12 league games, and nine wins from those 12.
And Wagner was full of praise for Sheffield Wednesday ahead of his side’s trip to South Yorkshire.
Wagner revealed that he and Rohl have conversed before, with the last interaction coming in January when Rohl enquired about one of Norwich City’s players, like Adam Forshaw.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday night, Wagner gave his verdict on Rohl’s job at Sheffield Wednesday, telling Pink’Un:
“What he [Rohl] has done in Sheffield is remarkable. Everybody who judges them on the league table at the minute makes a major mistake.
“If you take out the first 10 or 15 games before he came, and you see the points which they collected, this is a mid-table team, and it’s not only the points, they play like a mid-table team as well.
“They have everything, the physicality, speed, aggression. They play decent football as well and obviously he comes from this Red Bull coaching background, where they play a certain style, and this is exactly the style with a lot of intensity, a lot of pressure, counter-pressing situations, and this is something we will face.
“The truth is we know everything we have to know, and we are prepared to play our football on our highest level.”
Danny Rohl record at Sheffield Wednesday
Rohl has now overseen 33 games as Sheffield Wednesday, after he replaced Xisco Munoz earlier in the season.
He’s since won 13 games, drawing four and losing 16, leaving him with a win percentage of 39.39%.
Sheffield Wednesday were winless in the league before Rohl arrived at the club, and now the Owls have 42 points on the board.
David Wagner could have key advantage at Hillsborough
Wagner and Norwich City will be a very difficult opponent for Rohl and his Sheffield Wednesday.
Expect all niceties between the two managers to go out the window and expect a very tactical and also a physical battle.
Both teams have players of big stature and players with pace too, so this could be an area where the game is won or lost.
But Wagner has one thing that Rohl doesn’t have just yet; experience.
Wagner has not only done trips to Hillsborough in the past, at crunch times of the season, but he’s also got a team over the promotion line in the Championship.
He’ll know exactly what it takes to get a win at Hillsborough on Tuesday night whereas Rohl is learning on the job.
Still, it’ll be a very interesting game, with either side certainly capable of taking all three points.
