Manuel Hidalgo was scheduled to make his first appearance in Sheffield Wednesday colours on Tuesday.
Hidalgo joined the Owls from US Triestina Calcio earlier this month after impressing on trial at Middlewood Road.
The 20-year-old has signed an 18-month contract with Wednesday, whose Under-23 side he will play for initially.
But he had yet to appear for Neil Thompson’s team before now.
Posting on Instagram earlier, however, Hidalgo made the following announcement:

It is unclear who Wednesday were due to be playing, or which other players were involved in the friendly, which took place, presumably, behind closed doors.
The Owls’ senior side travel to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening, so the fixture is likely to have featured few first-teamers – if any at all.
Meanwhile, the teenage Wigan left-back Ryan Galvin appears to have played for Sheffield Wednesday’s U23s against Hull City on Friday.
Hull’s official website listed a player with Galvin’s name in the Wednesday XI which started the 3-2 defeat against the Tigers at Middlewood Road.
The game arrived three days after the Owls fielded an unnamed trialist, also understood to be the 18-year-old, in their 2-1 development squad win at Bolton Wanderers.
Galvin joined the Wigan academy ranks in 2018 and spent part of this season on loan to Stafford Rangers.
The player who celebrates his 19th birthday later this week can also perform higher up the pitch, according to Wigan’s official website.
Unbelievable goal for client Ryan Galvin today. 18 year old Wigan U23 Left Back. By my count, dribbles 8 players plus the keeper. Picture quality not great. Goal, top. pic.twitter.com/naIuq5Xve2

Galvin’s contract situation remains unclear, though it is likely that his deal will expire this summer, which could explain his presence at Sheffield Wednesday.
