Sheffield Wednesday axed Xisco Munoz last night, after a winless start to the 2023/24 Championship season.
Sheffield Wednesday are without a win after the opening 10 games of the Championship campaign, sitting in last place of the table with just two points to their name.
Many were calling for Munoz to go and last night, the club announced that Munoz and his staff had been axed.
Among the early contenders is former Luton Town and Southampton boss Nathan Jones, who is out of work after leaving the Saints last season.
But one name doing the rounds on social media is former Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock.
The veteran gaffer left Huddersfield Town earlier this season and was eventually replaced by former Owls boss Darren Moore.
And in typical managerial merry-go-round fashion, Warnock may yet head to Hillsborough, with reporter Rob Staton saying that the 74-year-old would in fact be open to the possibility of taking the Wednesday job.
“My understanding is Neil Warnock would be open to the possibility of his next tilt at a footballing miracle being at Hillsborough. Let’s see. No idea if he’s being considered but Sheffield Wednesday rescue mission similar to Rotherham/Huddersfield #SWFC.”
Warnock to save Sheffield Wednesday?
Warnock certainly has pedigree. And he has more experience than anyone out there.
Wednesday fans would arguably warm to the idea of bringing him in despite his Sheffield United past, and despite his past, it appears that Warnock would take on the job.
It would be a miraculous turn of events but desperate times call for desperate measures. If Wednesday want to stand a chance of Championship survival this season then they need a manager who’s been there and done that; Warnock is that manager.
It remains to be seen who comes in and who is willing to work with owner Dejphon Chansiri, who now has a big task on his hands.
