Sheffield Wednesday under-21s thrashed Hull last night and Sam Reed starred throughout the contest.
The youngster joined the Owls from Brighouse Town in the summer, penning his first professional contract.
Reed hasn’t made a first-team appearance just yet and instead, he’s been playing frequently for the under-21s.
The youngster was in fine form last night and managed to grab two goals for his efforts.
Reed stars as young Wednesday outfit win
The youngster lined up as a left-wing back last night as the under-21s beat Hull 5-2.
A young Owls team claimed a big victory at North Ferriby FC to close the gap on Sheffield United at the top of the table.
Reed found himself being able to get forward frequently last night and he helped himself to two goals.
His first was a well-taken finish from a right-wing cross and his second was a strike that he simply slammed home with brute force.
Reed gives Rohl food for thought
With Wednesday in their current plight, there could come a point where the academy is called upon to plug some gaps.
If Reed can keep finding the way to the goal from left wing-back, Rohl will definitely have something to ponder.
The former non-league player is a hardworking performer and he’s been a regular in the Wednesday under-21 team this season.
Rohl has called upon Reece James and Marvin Johnson in the left-sided wing-back role and for now, he’s likely to be happy with those two players.
Reed does look set for a bright future though and he’s been an impressive player for the under-21s this season.
It would be great if the Owls could enjoy a title race in the Professional Development League.
With Reed in this sort of form, there is every chance that Wednesday can be lifting the silverware come the end of the season.
