Lee Bullen has explained why he dropped Dominic Iorfa from his Sheffield Wednesday squad for Tuesday’s win against Luton Town.
Iorfa became an ever-present towards the end of last season, having arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window.
But a red card against Preston North End on the campaign’s penultimate weekend saw the right-back sit out Wednesday’s first two 2019/20 fixtures.
And despite being restored to the Owls starting line-up for Saturday’s defeat against Millwall, Iorfa failed to even make the bench against Luton.
Asked if there was any reason for Iorfa’s omission, Bullen told BBC Radio Sheffield: “No, not necessarily.

“And the boy was really disappointed – as you can expect because he started one week and he wasn’t even in the 18 (against Luton).
“We had a discussion about it. Ultimately, the boys that are playing at the moment, probably not of them deserve to be dropped. And I said that to Dom. I said: Did Moses deserve to lose his place in the team?
“Again, that was a tactical decision because we knew it was going to be a big, tall, physical, set-piece type of game (against Millwall). So Dom came in where maybe Mo should have kept his place.

“Dom’s still got a massive part to play this season. I’ve said that to him.
“We’ve decided to go, again, with one defender on the bench rather than two because we’re at home, we wanted to be more offensive, should we have to go after it and chase it down. We wanted to give David Bates a taste of it. He’s been waiting his turn. He’s still going to have to wait his turn because the defence is doing great.
“But it could be Dom that’s on the bench Saturday.”
Sheffield Wednesday were a full-back down against Luton with Liam Palmer suffering from a back spasm.
And that could see Morgan Fox deputise again for the Owls academy product when Bullen’s side travel to Preston on Saturday.
