Lee Bullen admits players could leave Sheffield Wednesday before September deadline

Lee Bullen has admitted that some Sheffield Wednesday players could follow Joost van Aken out of Hillsborough before 2 September.

Van Aken joined the German second-tier side, VfL Osnabruck, on a season-long loan deal earlier this week.

But it is not just the European window which remains open beyond the passing of the Premier League and Championship deadline.

And while there is nothing ‘definite’ in the pipeline, Bullen said via the official Sheffield Wednesday Facebook page: “I think, potentially, there might be one or two (who could leave).

“Possibly younger players. League One and Two are still able to take loans and obviously, after three, four games they can pick up injuries and suspensions and there might be something like that.

Despite being fit and available, Ashley Baker, Jordan Thorniley and Matt Penney are among the young Wednesday players who have yet to feature in any of Bullen’s matchday squads so far.

And there are a number of academy prospects, such as Jack Stobbs, Fraser Preston, Connor Grant and Omar Damba, who could benefit from getting first-team exposure away from Hillsborough.
