Sheffield Wednesday were beaten 1-0 by Bristol City yesterday as they failed to build on last season’s first win and Dominic Iorfa came in for some praise.
Wednesday were forced to play for over an hour with 10 men at Ashton Gate. Barry Bannan saw red in the 32nd minute with the referee deeming that he prevented an obvious goalscoring opportunity.
Iorfa has been one player in fine form of late and it would appear that Danny Rohl already views him as integral. He played the full 90 minutes again and showcased his clear class.
Iorfa praised by journalist despite Wednesday defeat
The 28-year-old started the game in his familiar centre-back position yesterday. Rohl went with a back three again yesterday and it does appear to be a system that’s going to stick the manager.
During the game, The Star reporter Joe Crann heaped praise on Wednesday defender Iorfa. The Owls enforcer once again gave a good account of himself despite a defeat.
Crann said of Iorfa’s performance during the Wednesday defeat: “Another really good performance from Dom Iorfa today, I thought. Looks confident, has shown excellent positioning, and his athleticism and persistence has come in very handy. Such an asset when he’s playing like this.”
Iorfa integral to fortunes under Rohl
The versatile defender has played just about anywhere across the defensive unit for the Owls. Iorfa is a quality addition to the Wednesday squad and was important as the club won promotion last season.
Iorfa is already proving to be a defender that Wednesday can completely trust. He’s a man in fine form and Rohl will already have learned a lot about his defender.
Wednesday need all the experience they can get in their current fight against Championship survival. With Iorfa in the ranks, the team should be capable of more victories in the coming weeks.
