A journalist has claimed that Sheffield Wednesday are ‘ripe for plucking’ for Birmingham City ahead of their match on Saturday afternoon.
Wednesday have only won once all season, and are coming off the back of a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Millwall just before the November international break.
The Blues however are still searching for their first win under new manager Wayne Rooney, having only managed to pick up one point in their last five games.
Journalist claims owls there for the taking
Speaking on their Q&A session for Birmingham Live, journalist Brian Dick said that he believes that Wednesday are there for the taking for the Blues on the weekend.
“Their start, six points in 16 games, has to be one of the worst starts in a very long time. In theory they are ripe for plucking, but Blues’ confidence is low as well.
Adding on to Dick’s comment, fellow journalist Alex Dicken believes that Wednesday may be a better opposition than Dick suggests.
“You do wonder if they were to nick an early goal, then it becomes a different game and probably an ugly one. Sheffield Wednesday won’t want to open up, which is understandable for a team down at the bottom.
“This is probably the first game Blues have had under Rooney where it’s made for them to have possession. We will see the fruits of Rooney and his staff’s labour in terms of how productive Blues are with the ball and how well they break Sheffield Wednesday’s lines.”
Wednesday have good opportunity to get win
Whilst Wednesday have been in poor form, that does not mean that it will necessarily be an easy fixture for Rooney’s men.
But this match does present both teams with a perfect opportunity to get back and running under their irrespective managers.
Wednesday manager Danny Rohl will want to get him and the Owls their second win of the season, after beating Rotherham United in his first home match in charge.
