Josh Windass deserves credit for his Sheffield Wednesday performance yesterday, according to The Star journalist Joe Crann. The Owls claimed their first Championship win of the season after a 2-0 win over Rotherham.
Windass lined up as one of three forward players deployed by Danny Rohl. Michael Smith played through the middle of the three-pronged attack; with Anthony Musaba on the left and Josh Windass roaming from the right.
Although the Wednesday star couldn’t etch his name onto the score sheet, it wasn’t through a lack of trying. He missed a gilt-edged chance in the first half and continued to probe after the interval.
Journalist raves about Windass after Wednesday win
The 29-year-old looked bang up for the game yesterday. Wednesday thoroughly deserved their win and on the face of things, Windass probably deserved to score a goal during the game.
Crann was very impressed and felt he slipped under the radar. He said on Twitter: “He hasn’t scored, which is no doubt bugging him profusely, but Josh Windass’ work in the last three #SWFC games should not go unnoticed… Was a creative hub for them today and deserves loads of credit for his performance. Really great to see, and long may it continue.
Windass can star under Rohl
The player is now one of the more experienced players in the dressing room. Wednesday saw Windass as integral during their promotion push of last season and his injury did hurt them somewhat.
Last season he did score 16 goals for the Owls. The club will dearly love to see him get back to banging them in this season and with the level of effort he showed yesterday that should become a reality.
Under the influence of Rohl, he could find the way to goal very soon. Certainly in the position he was deployed yesterday, he got into some good areas and that bodes well going forward.
