Sheffield Wednesday player Momo Diaby is unlikely to be back in action imminently. The player hasn’t featured since August after picking up a serious injury to his foot.
The 27-year-old had made the switch to Hillsborough on loan from Portuguese outfit Portimonense during the summer. That appearance against Preston was his debut for the Owls.
It’s a bit of a shame that he picked up the injury. The defensive midfielder had made a promising start on his debut and it was really cruel that the injury proved serious enough to sideline him.
Diaby not expected to be back for Wednesday soon
An update has been provided by Alex Miller of The Star. It’s not an overly positive one and ultimately, Wednesday will have to get used to him not being in their plans.
The latest article claims: “Midfield man Momo Diaby is making progress with his foot injury, though his return is not expected to be especially imminent.”
Wednesday do have options in their midfield engine room. However, Diaby does perhaps possess a little bit more quality than some of the other options that Danny Rohl has.
As a result, it will be hoped that there are no setbacks with this foot problem and he can be fit for a busy Christmas period. If he’s not back by then, the club will have a decision to make regarding the loan in January.
Wednesday need others to keep stepping up
Diaby looked very capable in his 65 minutes against Preston. He did look a class above the club’s other options in defensive midfield and now the baton has gone to other players.
Given that the team are yet to win this season in the Championship, someone else must now step up. Wednesday do have options available to Rohl but a real defensive enforcer isn’t evident in the squad.
Hopefully, Diaby can slowly but surely get himself in a position to play again. He’s not registered in the 25-man squad at this stage but the club have saved a space for a potential new addition.
