The former Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay has explained why Matt Penney returned to the Owls over Christmas.
Penney was due to spend the full campaign on loan to Luhukay’s new side, St Pauli.
But the Wednesday academy product was pictured alongside his Owls teammate, Cameron Dawson, and coach, Lee Bullen, at St Luke’s Hospice last month.
It prompted talk of an early recall for Penney, whose deal can be cut short throughout the month of January.
But speaking via St Pauli’s English Twitter page on Thursday, Luhukay said: “Matt did all his rehab in England. He came back yesterday and will resume full training at (the) training camp.”

Penney has played just eight times for St Pauli, with an injury having kept him out of action since early November.
The 21-year-old impressed after being thrust into the Wednesday team by Luhukay last season.
But his last competitive appearance in blue and white came in November 2018 after he underwent shoulder surgery.
Penney is one of several Sheffield Wednesday player whose contracts expire at the end of this season.
