The Sheffield Wednesday defender, Jordan Thorniley, has clarified reports he has returned home from the Owls’ training camp in Portugal.
According to the Star, Thorniley is back in England for treatment after picking up an injury.
But, replying to the newspaper’s Wednesday reporter, Dom Howson, on Twitter, the centre-back wrote:
Incorrect, I’m not injured

Asked if that means he could leave the Owls, he added:
No

And he later explained:
Returned for personal reasons, we don’t need an injury bug being spread about before the season has started.. Big season for everyone!!

Thorniley featured 22 times for Sheffield Wednesday, but only three of those appearances came under Steve Bruce’s management.

And the 22-year-old could have a fight on his hands this season, with Julian Börner – albeit unofficially – added to the Owls’ back line and Bruce being keen to recruit another player in the pair’s position, according to the Star.

The newspaper’s report has been widely criticised by those of a Wednesday persuasion, although its author, Howson, is currently with the team in Portugal, and is likely to have been fed the information by a well-positioned source within the club.
