The Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper, Joe Wildmith, wants to stay at Hillsborough this season.

Wildsmith made just two first-team outings last term, a drop of 27 from the previous campaign, with Cameron Dawson and then Keiren Westwood preferred instead.

The Owls academy product was rumoured to be interesting Rotherham United, although those claims have since been denied by the Millers boss, Paul Warne.

And asked if he would consider leaving Wednesday in this summer’s transfer window, Wildsmith told BBC Radio Sheffield: “Look, I’ll see how the season goes, and how the next few weeks go.

“For me, the focus is to try and see what happens here at Sheffield Wednesday.

“After that, who knows. But for me, I want to be here. I want to be fighting for a position and if that doesn’t happen, we’ll see what happens.

“But I can’t say I want to leave or anything like that, because I don’t. I want to be at Sheffield Wednesday and fight for my place.”

Wildsmith signed a new five-year contract with Sheffield Wednesday in August 2017.

The Sheffield-born 23-year-old has played 48 times for the Owls in total, having made his debut against Mansfield Town four years ago.

Would should Wednesday do with Wildsmith this season?
