Sheffield Wednesday loan man Jeff Hendrick has given some insight into what makes Danny Rohl a top coach.
Sheffield Wednesday fans are singing their praise for Rohl right now.
The 34-year-old has guided the Owls to a three-game unbeaten run, with back-to-back wins lifting them off the foot of the table for the first time in months.
Just eight points separate Wednesday and safety now, with the idea of survival looking like a distant one just a couple of weeks ago.
But there’s a newfound belief running through the club right now and Rohl has earned huge praise.
Jeff Hendrick hails Rohl’s ‘detail’
Rohl is very much a new school coach.
Upon his arrival, he spoke about player profiles and the detail he goes into when preparing for a game, and now after nine games at the helm, we’re seeing a completely different side.
Rohl has transformed the way that Sheffield Wednesday play.
With the same set of players that were turgid under Xisco Munoz before, Rohl has found a way to win games, and against some top sides too.
Speaking in a recent interview with Football League World, Newcastle United loanee Hendrick had his say on Rohl.
He said:
“The detail that the manager has brought in, and the work ethic in the group has been good.
“You must give everything on the pitch, and I think every player should have that in them. To have a manager pushing us is very good – people probably wrote us off, but I thought that was too soon – it’s a long season.
“Last season, you look at the position that I was in with Reading in October, I think we were in the top six. You must just keep going, keep fighting until the very end.”
Can Rohl be the saviour for Sheffield Wednesday?
Very few expect Rohl to keep Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship this season, so it’s quite a low-pressure situation for the German.
And this lack of pressure has helped Sheffield Wednesday turn their fortunes around in recent weeks and now, given how we’ve seen the Owls play in the last few games, there may be a sense of expectation that the Owls edge closer and closer to safety.
Rohl could yet be Wednesday’s saviour. But if the club go down then Rohl will surely be hailed as a top coach still, with his attention to detail on the pitch something that makes him standout as a boss, like Hendrick suggests.
We can really see the changes that he’s made since coming in and Sheffield Wednesday are quickly becoming a difficult team to go up against.
Norwich City next host the Owls in what will be a very difficult outing for both sides; Norwich especially as they’ll still be expected to beat relegation candidates Wednesday at Carrow Road.
