Speaking on the Singing The Blues Podcast, Dom Howson has claimed that Barry Bannan will have suitors in the Championship if Sheffield Wednesday are relegated.
The midfielder has only recently signed a new contract with the Owls, so there was the hope that he’d stay with the Yorkshire club upon relegation, but if Howson is right, this may not be the case.
It’s not all that surprising to hear that teams will come in for Bannan. After all, he has been one of Wednesday’s best players for a number of years at this point.
Howson suggested that Dominic Iorfa may also attract interest, but he claimed he’s certain that Bannan will.
“Something else to throw into the mix James, which people won’t want to hear, but it’s the reality, that if Wednesday go down, the vultures will be circling around their better players, such as Dominic Iorfa when he’s back fit, Barry Bannan I’m sure will have Championship suitors, minimum, looking at him,” Howson said.
The journalist then went on to speak about Osaze Urhoghide’s future and potential move away from Hillsborough for Josh Windass.
“We know still that there’s a huge question mark around Osaze Urhoghide’s future and maybe one or two others, Josh Windass would be another one where I’d say ‘does he want to drop down to League One.”

That’s the sad reality of relegation for you.
Wednesday aren’t going to have it easy down in League One, and anyone who thinks otherwise may be in for a harsh reality check.
The Owls have so many players out of contract, and even the stars that are signed on for next season may be picked off.
Wednesday will need to rebuild, and unfortunately, it’s hard to have faith in the people running the club to do that competently.
