‘He’s on his way out’ – Journalist predicts ‘inevitable’ summer exit Sheffield Wednesday contract rebel

Yorkshire Live reporter Ricky Charlesworth believes that Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s summer exit is ‘inevitable’, as interest grows in the departing Sheffield Wednesday man.

Dele-Bashiru, 22, is out of contract at the end of the month. Sheffield Wednesday have put a contract renewal offer on the table for the ex-Manchester City youngster, but interest in his services is growing with recent reports revealing that Dele-Bashiru has contract offers from Turkey.

And commenting on what the summer might hold for Dele-Bashiru, Charlesworth wrote in a recent Sheffield Wednesday Q&A for Yorkshire Live:

“I think it’s inevitable he’s on his way out. If he wanted to stay the contract offer would have been signed way back last season. That, plus all the various clubs supposedly interested in him, suggests to me he’s not going to play for the club again. It’d be a shame as he started the season like a house on fire.”

Dele-Bashiru’s contact has been a talking point among the Wednesday fans and officials throughout the season. But boss Darren Moore is clearly fond of the player and often full of praise.

Despite the contract stand-off, Moore spoke fondly of Dele-Bashiru back in February, saying:

“I thought at Ipswich when he came on, he played a pivotal part in stemming the flow. And then (on Tuesday) he came on at half-time and showcased what he’s about.

“His game is like that, he has got the ability to open up the door. I’m really pleased he showed another contribution.”

What next for Fizz?

Dele-Bashiru is certainly a player with bags of potential and ability. He showcased that last season and making the step up to the Championship with Wednesday ahead of next season seems like it would be a good, logical step for his progression.

But it seems like he wants to move on. If he wanted to stay at the club then he would surely have signed a new deal right now, so like Charlesworth says in his Q&A for Yorkshire Live, Dele-Bashiru leaving this summer looks like an inevitability.

He’ll need replacing in the midfield, but whether or not Moore can find someone with his presence and ability remains to be seen.
