Garry Monk responds when asked if proposed Sheffield Wednesday move for Birmingham's James Beattie has progressed

Garry Monk has suggested that a move for the Birmingham City coach James Beattie is not imminent.

Beattie worked with Monk, the new Sheffield Wednesday manager, at Southampton (teammate), Swansea City, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Birmingham.

The Lancastrian remained with the Blues after his friend’s summer departure, but according to The Birmingham Mail he has since been redeployed from his role as first-team coach.

Speaking after his appointment, Monk revealed to The Sheffield Star that he is open to adding to his Hillsborough backroom team.

But asked if anything has progressed on that front throughout the week, the 40-year-old told the official Sheffield Wednesday Facebook page there is ‘nothing’ to report ‘at the moment’.

Beattie is best known in Sheffield for his two spells at Wednesday’s rivals, United.

The Birmingham employee scored for the Blades against the Owls in the 2007/08 Steel City Derby at Bramall Lane.

But his Sheffield United career ended with Wednesday promoted to the Championship at their rivals’ expense four years later.
