Garry Monk calls U23 trio into Sheffield Wednesday first-team training

Garry Monk has had one eye on the future at Sheffield Wednesday this week.

First, the newly-appointed Wednesday boss named the Owls Under-23s captain Alex Hunt among his substitutes at Blackburn.

Then he included at least three more Hillsborough youngsters in his first-team training session earlier this week.

A gallery of images on the Sheffield Wednesday website shows the newly-signed centre-back Osaze Urhoghide, the winger Fraser Preston and the striker Preslav Borukov in action against their senior teammates.

It is nevertheless unlikely that any of those will form part of Saturday’s squad to face Swansea City – barring any unforeseen absences.

But Monk is at least showing signs of proactivity ahead of another potentially transitional year for the Owls, whose list of out of contract players stretches into double figures for the second year running.

And Urhoghide, Preston and Borukov will all be trying their best to ensure that they are not among those leaving on frees.
