Some Sheffield Wednesday fans have vocalised how impressed they’ve been with how Chey Dunkley handled himself after being asked about not yet being paid his wages in the month of November.
The news broke earlier this week that the Owls’ playing staff are yet to be paid for November, and as you can imagine, that was a hot talking point in the pre-match press conferences.
Any player would have every right to be fuming about not receiving their pay, but Dunkley conducted himself with an unbelievable level of professionalism.

“That’s confidential in terms of the payments, but it’s got out there,” Dunkley said.
“For me, the lads have reacted well to the information getting out and it’s up to us to concentrate on winning a football match,
“It’s a distraction, I’ll be honest with you, but people have distractions in life. It could be anything, your dog might pass away, but you’ve got to be on the job.
“I’m a football player and my main aim is to go out on the pitch, do my job first and foremost and win football games.
“I’ve got to focus on that. I can’t be speaking about the financial side of it. There are lots of things that can affect a footballer, not just money.”
You can understand exactly why the fans on social media were impressed by this answer.
Players not being paid is a recipe for disaster at any football club, it can drag down morale and derail a season, but it seems as though Dunkley is willing to get on with things on the pitch regardless of the issues off of it.
Wednesday fans are obviously happy as this sort of attitude will help the Owls get results on the pitch, even if everything is a bit of a mess behind the scenes.
We can only hope that Dunkley and his teammates are paid what they’re owed very soon as nobody in any line of work should be missing a payday.
Here’s what the Hillsborough faithful have been saying on social media…
Id make him Captain. Vocal, level headed and has been in this situation before #swfc

I agree mate he has shown captaincy attributes since he walked through door even though he hasn’t played

I’ve got a good feeling about Mr Dunkley. Hopefully a Wednesday legend in the making.
