Josh Windass, 30, sees his Sheffield Wednesday contract expire at the end of June, meaning that as things stand, he’ll officially become a free agent on July 1st.
The striker scored goals in each of Sheffield Wednesday’s last three games of the 2023/24 season, playing a pivotal part in the club’s eventual 20th place finish.
Per the club’s retained list, Windass has been offered a new contract. Reports at first suggested that he was likely to stay, though it’s since been revealed that Windass now looks more likely to leave.
He’s had reported interest from Birmingham City in League One. In the Championship, a handful of teams are linked, though Coventry City and Hull City are thought to be the front-runners for his signature.

The same report adds that Birmingham City remain keen on signing former Rangers man Windass, who looks ‘increasingly unlikely’ to stay at Sheffield Wednesday beyond this month.
Windass joined Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent deal in the summer of 2020 after an initial loan spell with the club.
In 135 total appearances for the Owls, Windass has scored 40 goals and grabbed 17 assists; most memorably, Windass scored the winning goal in the League One play-off final victory against Barnsley in 2023.

The former Cardiff City loan man has proven his scoring ability in the second tier and could be a viable replacement for Windass.
