Former Sheffield Wednesday winger Andre Green has suffered a very ‘serious’ injury following his return to the Championship.

Rotherham United boss Matt Taylor has confirmed that the 25-year-old could be out of action for up to 12 months after suffering an Achilles injury in training.

Andre Green has struggled throughout his career, having held a lot of promise during his time with Aston Villa.

After becoming the fifth youngest player to ever represent the club in 2016, the winger went onto score only twice in 41 appearances in the Championship.

Green was sent out on loan to Portsmouth, Preston and Charlton Athletic, where he netted a further six goals in total.

Green eventually left Villa Park and joined Sheffield Wednesday, though his misery continued as he failed to net at all before he was offloaded to Slovakia only seven months later.

The forward enjoyed a lot more success with Slovan Bratislava and was offered another chance in the Championship by Rotherham this summer, though he only managed nine league appearances before being ruled out for a whole year.

“It’s so unfortunate for Andre, his family and the club,” Taylor said. “The recovery time is close to 12 months.

“We look forward to this time next season and welcoming him back in some capacity. It was something that happened when no-one was near him on the training pitch.

“They’re always the worst ones. You could sense a few seconds after he went down how serious it was.

“He’ll have surgery this week to repair it. We felt we were just getting him closer to match sharpness. His contributions were getting better.

“He went straight off to hospital with the medical staff. I’ve spoken to him a couple of times since then. All we can do is support him.”

Can Andre Green bounce back?

It has been an extremely frustrating few years for Andre Green after previously looking like he could have reignited his career when he arrived at Hillsborough.

However, the former England U20 international still has time to find his feet once he returns to action next year and he just needs to focus on himself and his recovery now.

The Millers could well be competing in League One by then, which could offer Green another opportunity to rebuild his career and impress in a lower tier.
