The former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, Lewis McGugan, has resurfaced less than 50 miles away from his old club.
Wednesday released McGugan at the start of last season, and he later signed a short-term deal at Northampton Town. But the 30-year-old has remained unemployed since January 2018.
According to BBC Radio Humberside, however, McGugan has been given a chance to impress Scunthorpe United, and played in the Irons’ behind-closed-doors friendly against Grimsby Town on Tuesday.
McGugan proved popular with the Wednesday faithful during his two-and-a-half years at Hillsborough, scoring memorable goals against Newcastle United and Preston North End.
But he struggled to oust Kieran Lee, Barry Bannan, Alex Lopez after Carlos Carvalhal’s arrival as manager and failed to play a single game in his final season with the Owls.

McGugan could join the former Sheffield Wednesday players, Rory McArdle and Tony McMahon, if he is offered a deal by the League One strugglers.
