Keith Hackett thinks that Sheffield Wednesday star Di’Shon Bernard could be in trouble after Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat to Coventry in the FA Cup.
The former referee has been speaking with The Star.
So, what has Hackett said about Sheffield Wednesday defender Bernard? Let’s take a closer look…
What Keith Hackett has said about Wednesday star Di’Shon Bernard
Well, it would appear as though the man who refereed on the FIFA list during his career, thinks the defender might be in a spot of bother.
The incident was mentioned by Mark Robins in his post-match press conference where he took aim at Wednesday.
Wednesday star Bernard left Sky Blues midfielder Jamie Allen with a depressed fracture of his cheekbone following one incident.
However, the referee, Chris Kavanagh, didn’t pick this up and Bernard was allowed to continue.
Hackett doesn’t think this incident will be forgotten though and feels that the defender signed in the summer might be in trouble.

He told The Star: “Personally I think there is a strong chance he will be cited on this one, but a lot rides on Mark Robins, Coventry and officials’ view of the incident.
“As a club, they’ve got a player who has a depressed cheekbone injury and that indicates contact has been made. It raises suspicion of excessive force. That’s what they will look for.
“The whole process will be dealt with pretty swiftly and they’ll take the Friday game into consideration. It’s an interesting one. With the outcome of the injury, to be honest, I would be absolutely gobsmacked if they don’t take action.”
Wednesday can ill-afford to lose defender
Well, based on what Hackett believes is the protocol, this doesn’t feel like good news for Wednesday.
Bernard has been an important player for Wednesday this season since he joined the club and losing him for three crucial games won’t be ideal.
The Jamaica international has been one of the standout performers in a pretty drab season and hopefully, Coventry will see their place in round five as enough compensation.
However, it’s hard to imagine that they will let this one lie and Wednesday could now be forced to make a change with Bernard facing a ban.
Wednesday can’t afford to lose their discipline and if the defender does receive punishment it could prove a seriously detrimental blow.
