There are ‘several’ parties interested in buying Sheffield Wednesday.
That’s according to Carlton Palmer, who has claimed that Dejphon Chansiri is ‘not entertaining’ their offers.
Dejphon Chansiri’s consortium acquired a 100 per cent stake in Sheffield Wednesday back in 2015 and he oversaw two play-off battles before things started to go downhill.
The club has looked to be on the decline in recent years, receiving a point deduction during the 2020-21 for breaching financial regulations before they were relegated to League One.
While the Owls were promoted at the end of last season, Chansiri went onto infuriate supporters when Darren Moore was dismissed and he failed to inject any cash into the club, before they went onto endure their worst start to a season in their history.
Chansiri was then heavily criticised when he did an interview with The Star, asking supporters to donate £2 million to help save the club from a transfer ban.
Despite the discontent at the the club and Chansiri’s own clear frustrations, Alan Nixon has reported that the Thai businessman has ‘no plans’ to sell the club.
However, Carlton Palmer has now claimed that Chansiri could well sell the club to one of ‘several’ interest parties if he wanted to, but he is ignoring their pursuits.
Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has stated he has no plans to sell the club even if they are relegated.
“As it stands, that is the situation.
“I know for a fact there are several interested parties who would like to buy the club, but the owner is not entertaining.
“It has become a very difficult situation at Sheffield Wednesday, there can be no argument about the money the owner has put in the football club, and they were within 90 minutes of the Premier League, but the recent decisions that he has made, the sacking of Darren Moore, season ticket prices and his reluctance to engage in the transfer market in terms of the quality of players he has brought in, has angered the fan base.
“I think the situation is at a stand-off at present, and until this is resolved, it compromises the level to where Sheffield Wednesday can go.
“I think January could be key, they are nine points from safety, does he give the manager the funds to get the quality of players they need to get them out of the situation or does he accept relegation?
“This will be a very, very key factor in his future tenure.”
This won’t end well for Dejphon Chansiri
Dejphon Chansiri clearly isn’t taking Sheffield Wednesday in the right direction anymore and I struggle to see how he is really benefitting from being here either.
It’s almost like he is simply just trying to make a point to supporters that they can’t force him out if he doesn’t want to go, but it just seems like he is causing more trouble for himself than it is really worth.
Chansiri needs to stop being so petty and consider some of these potential offers, because I refuse to believe anyone could be happy to watch a club they have been with for almost a decade, fall so dramatically like we have.
This club has so much potential and has shown just exciting the good times can be not that long ago, but Chansiri certainly won’t be bringing those times back.
