The former Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri appears to have been impressed by one of his old teammates’ recent achievements.

Forestieri left the Owls at the end of his contract in June, and as such missed the club’s final seven games of last season.

The Argentine later re-joined Udinese on a free transfer and has appeared on five occasions for the Serie A club.

But Forestieri, it seems, has not forgotten about Wednesday.

And, after the Owls’ shared footage of Manuel Hidalgo’s first goal for the Under-23s on Twitter earlier, the 30-year-old wrote in Spanish: “Beautiful friend”.

Forestieri and Hidalgo, who also hails from Argentina, enjoyed a close relationship during their time together at Hillsborough.

It was in fact the former who let slip Hidalgo’s presence at Wednesday’s Middlewood Road training ground before the 21-year-old’s move from Triestina was formally announced.

Hidalgo, who signed an 18-month contract with the Owls in January, has yet to appear for Garry Monk’s first team.

Despite his goal, Wednesday’s U23s were beaten 3-1 by their Ipswich counterparts.
