A former Sheffield Wednesday loan man has been praised for his fine strike on Tuesday night.
Sheffield Wednesday and loan signings have gone hand in hand in recent seasons.
And even this season, current boss Danny Rohl has relied quite heavily on loan signings, with some of his best players being his loan players.
James Beadle in goal and Ike Ugbo in attack, and of course Ian Poveda on loan from Leeds United, though Poveda is struggling with injuries.
Under Darren Moore, loans seemed to be much more important.
Rohl is working wonders with the clubs actual first-team players but he sees half of them out of contract in the summer, so next season could see Wednesday hosting a horde of temporary names.
Sheffield Wednesday best-ever loan players
Over the years, Sheffield Wednesday have had some great players on loan.
Names like Kenwyn Jones spring to mind, Michail Antonio, Connor Wickham, and more recently Mark McGuinness.
And Ugbo and Poveda are certainly up there too.
The pair have contributed massively to the upturn in form over recent weeks and if Poveda was still fit and firing, Wednesday might well be out of the drop zone by now.
But the Owls have also had some not-so-successful loan players, one being Lewis Wing.
Lewis Wing at Sheffield Wednesday
Wing, now 28, joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Middlesbrough ahead of the 2021/22 League One campaign.
But in 18 league appearances for the Owls, Wing would fail to record a single goal contribution, then seeing his spell cut short so that he could join Wycombe Wanderers on a permanent deal.
Since, Wing has rediscovered his scoring touch, retaining his reputation for being able to score some spectacular goals.
He scored nine and assisted five more for Wycombe in League One last year, then joining Reading ahead of this campaign.

With Reading this season, midfielder Wing has featured 39 times in League One, scoring eight and assisting eight more, with his latest goal coming in a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night.

Reading are stabilising in League One, whilst Sheffield Wednesday are fighting to beat the drop in the Championship.
So Wednesday and Wing could be lining up against each other next season, and Wing would surely be out with a point to prove.
His loan spell at Hillsborough was labelled as ‘disappointing’ with then boss Moore suggesting that Wing was trying too hard to score goals, rather than play the way that Moore wanted him to play.
In the end, Wing and Wednesday parted ways for the better.
He’s clearly a top player and he’s still capable of scoring some wonderful goals.
Hopefully, he won’t be doing so against Sheffield Wednesday anytime soon.
