Two former Sheffield Wednesday youth team players helped Salford City to promotion on Saturday.
Emmanuel Dieseruvwe started and scored, while Devante Rodney appeared as a second-half substitute as the Ammies beat AFC Flyde 3-0 at Wembley.
The pair were teammates at Hillsborough between 2013, when Rodney arrived from Manchester City, and 2015, when Dieseruvwe was released.
However, neither made a competitive appearance for the Owls’ first team.
A drop into non-league followed for both players upon leaving Sheffield Wednesday, but the Football League beckons should Salford keep them on.
Rodney has a year still to run on his contract with the Class of ’92-owned side, however, Dieseruvwe’s deal expires at the end of next month.
Meanwhile, their former teammate at Wednesday, Ryan Croasdale, was on the Fylde side beaten by Salford.
The Ammies have never before appeared at Football League level and could meet the Owls for the first time ever next season if paired in one of the cups.
