Sheffield Wednesday released defender Ben Heneghan at the end of last season.
Sheffield Wednesday eventually earned promotion to the Champisonhip last season, via the League One play-offs.
But it could well have been an easier route for Darren Moore that season if he had Heneghan at his disposal throughout.
The defender joined on a free transfer ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and put in 10 appearances in League One before a significant knee injury ended his season early on.
But the 30-year-old recently signed for Fleetwood Town on a permanent deal, making his debut in the 1-1 draw v Burton Albion over the weekend.
And Fleetwood boss Lee Johnson spoke highly of the Englishman, saying after the game:
“We took a risk with Ben as he hasn’t played in 10 months and maybe the footwork got the better of him at the start but he’s big enough to understand that and held his hand up for the penalty – he was brilliant other than that.”
Heneghan gave away a penalty during the first half which was initially missed but Burton’s Joe Powell, who converted the rebound to give the Brewermen the lead.
Fleetwood eventually equalised through Junior Quitirna, handing them just their second point of the season with Johnson’s side sat in 23rd place of the League One table.

Heneghan finding his footing…
Heneghan really showed his quality during the opening part of last season. He’s a very competent defender at League One level and for Fleetwood, it seems like a very good signing.
And like Johnson says, Heneghan put in a good debut, despite giving away a penalty.
It was his first game in almost a year though and Fleetwood eventually claimed an impressive point, with Johnson an Heneghan right up against it this season.
And Wednesday are also up against it this season, with Xisco Munoz’s side in last place of the Championship table after eight games.
