Everton are set to make a decision on Tom Cannon’s future on Wednesday, amid interest from Sheffield Wednesday and a number of other clubs.

That’s according to journalist Alan Nixon who was quizzed on Twitter (via FLW) as to when Everton might make a call on whether or not to loan out Cannon this summer.

The Sun reporter says Wednesday is decision day for the Toffees, with Cannon having been linked with a clutch of Championship clubs in recent weeks including Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City, Sunderland, and Stoke City.

But it’s Preston who remain front-runners to re-sign the 20-year-old, who scored eight goals in 20 Championship outings during the seecond half of last season.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe has refused to comment on the matter, but he reiterated Cannon’s ability, labelling the youngster as ‘quality’.

Sheffield Wednesday have now signed eight new players this summer, but Ashley Fletcher is the only striker to have arrived at Hillsborough, joining on loan from Watford for the 2023/24 campaign.

Wednesday decision day for the Owls

Expect Sheffield Wednesday to have retained an interest in Cannon. It looks likely that he’ll be returning to the Championship on loan and Wednesday remain in need of additions this summer.

But with Preston still looking like they’re heading the race, a move to Hillsborough may be unlikely for Cannon, so when Wednesday passes, we may see him returning to Deepdale.

It’ll be a blow for Munoz but the Spaniard will have plenty of other names on his list as we move towards the end of the summer transfer window on September 1st.
