Former Sheffield Wednesday man Ben Heneghan has signed for League One side Fleetwood Town on a permanent deal.
Heneghan, 30, signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer ahead of last season, going on to feature 10 times in League One before a serious knee injury curtailed his season.
He showed a lot of quality in his performances for Wednesday, but he was eventually released by the club following promotion to the Championship.
After signing for Fleetwood Town though, Heneghan opened up on his Wednesday exit with this post on social media:
“Although it didn’t go exactly how I wanted we managed to achieve the end goal and get promoted.
“Thanks for all the support along the way from players, staff and fans, it meant a lot! Good luck for the future and get back to winning ways! Up the Owls.”
Fleetwood are now managed by Lee Johnson. The club sits in 23rd place of the League One table having taken just one point from their opening seven games, with a trip to Burton Albion on the agenda this weekend.

Should Heneghan have been fit for the entirety of last season then Wednesday may well have had a better chance of earning automatic promotion.
And Heneghan would surely have earned himself a new deal with Wednesday who have really struggled so far in the Championship.
Xisco Munoz’s side remain in the bottom three and without a win to their name this season.
