Dejphon Chansiri is expected to lay low following his £2 million plea to Sheffield Wednesday fans.
According to journalist Ricky Charlesworth, the Thai businessman has already returned to his home country.
After Dejphon Chansiri previously claimed that he would no longer fund Sheffield Wednesday due to criticism from the fans, the Owls were finally placed under embargo last week.
This is due to money owned to HMRC, meaning the club won’t be able to register new players until the debts have been paid off.
However, Chansiri has since come out and admitted he can’t pay the fees immediately and has shockingly asked supporters to chip in to cover the costs.
In an interview with the Sheffield Star on Tuesday, the Owls owner said: “With HMRC, if we don’t pay until, say, the fifth of November, then that means it’s been 14 days, but if we don’t pay wages as well then that’s five days – that means a total of 19 days. Each issue counts separately.
“If 20,000 people gave £100 then it’s £2m, and it’d be clear – so we can finish it. That would cover everything, HMRC and the wages. That would need to be done before November 10th if they don’t want to pass the 30 days, but that means that there can be no next time. It’d need to be before to make it safe – if it was on the fifth then there would be 10 days left… If we were to hit 30 days then we’ll get a ban for three windows.”
Chansiri was then slammed by journalists and pundits, with former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan branding him a ‘laughing stock’.
There has been no further comment from Chansiri and it is unclear what the plan is from here, but Ricky Charlesworth has suggested he will be distancing himself from the media for the near future.
He said: “I don’t think he will be doing anything any time soon. I’d extend that to interviews with the media, fans forum etc. He is back in Thailand although for how long is unclear.”
What happens now?
Dejphon Chansiri had already frustrated the fans, however his latest moves have really begun to irritate people even outside of the club.
It seems like he wants to show his power and strength over the supporters, but he really isn’t helping himself or the club’s terrible financial situation either.
Chansiri needs to come forward with a plan, or just pay off his debts and leave as soon as possible. Demanding money from supporters when your family is worth around £500m is unforgivable.
