Sheffield Wednesday unveiled Xisco Munoz as their new manager today, with the Spaniard talking to the press alongside owner Dejphon Chansiri.
It was another memorable presser involving Chansiri. The Sheffield Wednesday owner is never too far from headlines and he’s never short of something to say.
And amid the usual introductions and new manager comments today, Chansiri took aim at a former Sheffield Wednesday player in Carlton Palmer.
The 57-year-old has become very vocal on Twitter and often voices his opinions, and concerns, about the running of Sheffield Wednesday.
One his recent tweets caused a stir. Palmer said last week:
And speaking in today’s press conference, Chansiri had this response for Palmer:
“Carlton Palmer came out and said something. I don’t understand why you say you love this club but you try to damage it. When we’ve done well in the past I’ve never seen him come out. I think he just wants to get attention.”
Chansiri added:
“If he thinks he tells the true story I invite him to talk to me face-to-face in front of fans and media. Don’t hide behind social media.”
Carlton Palmer’s recent comments causing a stir
Palmer will always be fondly remembered as a player. Over the last few weeks though, he’s said some questionable things online and they’ve clearly caught Chansiri’s attention.
Chansiri has also had his critics in the past and he continues to divide opinion among the Owls fan base. But the whole Moore saga has probably won Chansiri more fans than not, especially if it’s true what he’s said about Moore demanding a four-fold wage rise.
Sheffield Wednesday and Chansiri have much more pressing things to deal with right now, though. Munoz has to build a squad capable of competing in the Championship in less than a month and Chansiri needs to give him all the help he can over the course of the summer.
Palmer shouldn’t be on Chansiri’s mind right now, but he seems to be.
