Sheffield Wednesday host relegation rivals Birmingham City in the Championship tonight.
Sheffield Wednesday are back at Hillsborough tonight, after a couple of failed away trips.
Danny Rohl saw his side lose 4-0 away at Huddersfield Town in the Championship last weekend, then losing 4-1 at Coventry City in the FA Cup in midweek.
Now winless in six, the Owls host a Birmingham City side recently rejuvenated by the arrival of Tony Mowbray as manager.
Blues though have lost their last two in all competitions, losing 1-0 away at West Brom last weekend to find themselves 19th place of the table, and just four points ahead of QPR in 22nd.
David Prutton predicts draw between Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City
Writing his prediction for tonight’s game, Sky Sports pundit and former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder David Prutton wrote:
“It was looking so promising for Sheffield Wednesday a few weeks ago, but just one point from four has plunged them right back into the mire. The result at Huddersfield was also a disaster.
“Birmingham were edged at West Brom last weekend, but local pride aside there is little to be ashamed of in that result. Three points here would go a long way to easing their nerves of the drop. But I think it will be a draw.”
Prutton predicted a 2-2 draw in South Yorkshire.
Draw maybe, but tonight won’t be a goal fest
A draw may well be the outcome of tonight’s game. But it doesn’t look like fans will be treated to a bunch of goals.
Neither Sheffield Wednesday nor Birmingham City have been on target much recently; the Owls have scored just three goals during this six-game winless run, whereas Blues have scored six in five games under Mowbray, but none in their last two.
Either way, a draw wouldn’t be good enough for Sheffield Wednesday, who desperately need a win to keep themselves in the fight for survival in the Championship.
The gap to safety is currently eight points though with QPR looking refreshed in their fight for survival and Huddersfield Town showing last weekend that they won’t go down without a fight, Sheffield Wednesday must pick up points against the teams near them.
A win then could lift the Owls to within five points of safety. Rohl and co will then have all eyes on QPR vs Norwich City tomorrow, and Huddersfield Town away at promotion-chasers Southampton.
