Danny Rohl has been told that his verdict on Sheffield Wednesday’s draw with Stoke City was wrong.
Sheffield Wednesday were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke City at the weekend.
The Owls had taken the lead through Liam Palmer in the second half, but it was only minutes later that the Potters nullified his opener.
Wednesday were unable to take their chances and were left full of regret as they sunk back into the relegation zone after a brief period of the match above ground.
Following the match at Hillsborough, Danny Rohl said: “It’s hard to take.
“We dominated the game, had so many chances. After 10 minutes perhaps it could have been 3-0. It was similar to the Swansea game, chances but it is just a draw, just a draw. At the moment draws don’t help.
“It’s football. Across the whole game James had only one save to make, that’s it. The second one is a goal. We were on the front foot, we had the stadium behind us and we showed a good performance.
“I don’t know what Stoke felt about the game. I think they know how strong we are at home and how we play. We were on the front foot, we created a lot of chances.”
‘I disagree’ with Danny Rohl’s verdict
While Danny Rohl believes his team deserved something more from the point against the Potters, journalist Dom Howson has admitted that he disagrees with his verdict.
Taking to X, he wrote: “Danny Röhl said #SWFC ‘were the better team’ and ‘dominated’ vs Stoke. I disagree.
“They were in the first half but Stoke came into it in the second and created the better chances.
“DR, rightly, highlighted the points dropped at home vs Watford, Swansea, Norwich and Stoke.”
Were Sheffield Wednesday the better team?
Sheffield Wednesday had 55% possession against Stoke at the weekend, while they also had 15 shots to their eight. However, only five of those were on target.
The Owls had seven of their shots in the first half and the rest came in the second, while Stoke had one shot on half-time, while their remaining seven came in the second half.
Rohl’s side definitely dominated the ball for most of the game and their chances were arguably spread across the 90 minutes, but that wasn’t to say Stoke had much better chances towards the end.
Wednesday can have all the shots and all the possession they want but it doesn’t necessarily mean they played really well or were doing what they were supposed to. If they played that well then they could have managed to put the ball in the back of the net.
They are clearly just missing the goalscoring threat that has been absent all season, and perhaps with that their performances would be a lot more affective.
