Palmer backs Wednesday to sign Hayden in January

The Owls will go in search of several new additions during the transfer window as they bid to survive in the Championship.

One player is edging closer to signing for Wednesday, with James Beadle set to sign from Brighton to bolster the goalkeeping department.

Hayden is another player who has been linked with the Owls. He’s currently on loan at Standard Liege but he’s made just 10 appearances this season.

Palmer believes that Wednesday would be wise to try and get Hayden in at Hillsborough this month and he’s been discussing the midfielder.

He told Football League World: “They lack legs in midfield and the last game they played against Hull, which they won, they played full-back Liam Palmer in there.

“Wednesday were close to completing a deadline day move for Hayden before he made the switch to Belgium. Isaac is a good Championship player and he would be a good acquisition for Sheffield Wednesday in their fight for survival.”

Who is Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden?

At 28-years-old, the player should now be at the peak of his powers and he has bags of experience in the Championship.

Hayden started his career with Arsenal and was a product of their respected youth academy and departed with two appearances for the first team to his name.

Hayden spent time on loan with Norwich and Hull before signing permanent terms with Newcastle in 2016.

The Wednesday-linked Hayden helped the Magpies win the Championship and made 171 appearances before choosing to leave for Belgium.

His time overseas hasn’t been overly successful and it looks for the all the world that his loan will be cut short.

Now, the midfielder could be on his way back to England and clearly, Palmer hopes to see Hayden in a Wednesday shirt very soon.
