One Sheffield Wednesday is said to be making ‘such a difference’ in their race to avoid relegation.
Sheffield Wednesday are as close to safety as they have been for a very long time after collecting their third win in four games.
After picking up two clean sheets and six points against Birmingham City and Millwall, the Owls were back at it again as they hosted Bristol City yesterday.
Ike Ugbo netted the opener for Sheffield Wednesday but the Robins pegged one back inside half an hour.
The first half action didn’t stop there though, with Ugbo adding to his tally just before half-time, making it his second brace since joining the club on loan from Cardiff City.
The striker made it another huge win for Danny Rohl‘s side, while now has five goals in his last four games.
Ugbo is really making a name for himself since arriving at Hillsborough, though journalist Alan Biggs has admitted he ‘didn’t see’ the Canadian making such a positive impact.
He wrote on X: “Have to admit I didn’t see five goals in four games in Ike Ugbo’s record when he joined #SWFC. Shaping as a MUCH better signing than it looked at the time. Goals make SUCH a difference to a team.”
Can Ike Ugbo keep Sheffield Wednesday up?
Prior to Ike Ugbo’s arrival, Sheffield Wednesday had five strikers to rely on – Bailey Cadamarteri, Ashley Fletcher, Michael Smith, Mallik Wilks and Lee Gregory.
Their forwards have netted seven goals between them – only two more than what Ugbo has under his belt in the last two and a bit weeks.
While every one of those players have individually performed really well and have made a big contribution to their upturn in form, Ugbo is looking like the key to what has been a difficult push to stay in the Championship.
The 25-year-old is full of confidence and has been what the team have been missing for a majority of the campaign.
If he can keep it up for the next few months then there is no reason why Rohl’s side can’t stay up.
