Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has provided an update on injured defender Dominic Iorfa.
Sheffield Wednesday have been fairly lucky to pick up no major injuries so far this season.
But one persistent injury blow for Rohl and the Owls is that to Iorfa; the 28-year-old has been missing since the start of December owing to a muscle injury picked up in the 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Hillsborough.
The right-back had started and finished every minute of every game under Rohl before that injury.

Speaking to The Star, Rohl has provided a fresh update on Iorfa and his return to fitness, saying:
“Dom is going step-by-step. He has started to train with the team, which is a good sign, but after the big injury it is about paying attention. Sometimes as a manager you want to get him immediately in, but it is about going step by step. It is a good signal for us.”
Former Wolves man Iorfa joined Sheffield Wednesday during the 2018/19 season, having since racked up 152 total appearances for the Owls.
He featured 35 times in League One last season as the club earned promotion to the Championship, with 15 appearances in the second tier so far this season.
In his absence, Rohl has mainly been deploying Pol Valentin at right-back, though Liam Palmer has also played there on occasion.
Iorfa now playing for his Sheffield Wednesday future
Iorfa is one of the many out of contract at Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, and so he’ll be playing for his future when he does eventually return.
There’s no doubting his ability and it seemed like Rohl preferred him at right-back, so there definitely seems to be a chance for Iorfa to earn a new deal.
But this isn’t the first time he’s picked up a lengthy injury. He’s missed large parts of prevous seasons and so the Owls may yet be keen to offload him in the summer.
Though with an ageing squad and the likes of Palmer out of contract in the summer as well, keeping Iorfa who remains at a good age at 28 could be a smart move, even if it’s for just one more year.
Going off Rohl’s update on the player, it seems like Iorfa remains quite a way away from making a return, though he’s definitely on the right path and we look set to see him before the end of the season.
And having a player with experience back in the side for the final run-in can only be a plus for Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday.
