Sheffield Wednesday take on Bristol City in the Championship this weekend, and Danny Rohl has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from.

Sheffield Wednesday, despite their poor performances on the pitch and misfortune off it this season, have been fairly lucky on the injury front.

The Owls have a fairly large first-team with only one player having been missing in the past couple of weeks; Momo Diaby.

The man on loan from Portimonense sustained a rather serious injury on his first start for the club in August and he’s been sidelined since.

But speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to managerless Bristol City, Rohl gave a positive update on the Frenchman, saying:

“Momo is starting to run outside and we will see when he is ready to play games in the Under-21s and then it will be step by step to make sure he is fit.”

Diaby’s return will be a huge boost for Rohl…

Diaby showed in the hour he played against Preston North End back in August that he’s a player with definite Championship quality.

It didn’t take long for fans to see that he’s a very good signing for the Owls and his absence has certainly been a miss for Wednesday, who lack that bit of physicality in the middle of the park.

Diaby has power and a good technical game too, so having him back soon enough will give Rohl a new and different option in the midfield.

But expect Rohl to take his time with Diaby. He won’t want to rush him back and aggravate the inury and he’ll also want to take a good look at him in training before selecting him in the Championship.

Rohl’s update on Diaby is certainly a positve one though.
