Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has explained where he sees John Buckley playing in his team moving forward.
The Owls signed the versatile player on loan from Blackburn during the summer transfer window.
Buckley had scored a hat-trick in the Carabao Cup against Harrogate for Rovers but was allowed to join Wednesday on loan.
Rohl explains Buckley’s best position
The 24-year-old has played in several roles since signing a loan deal at Hillsborough.
Wednesday have seen some strong performances from Buckley, although there is more to come.
Rohl is seemingly a fan of the player, however, and he’s been discussing where he sees him featuring in his team.
He told The Star: “He played in the first games when I arrived, for now, he was out, but I had a meeting with him.
“Some of his strengths are that he is very calm on the ball and has energy. He has the tactical things now, I talk to him more as a number six.
“He started more as a number 10, but now I see him more as a six. He came into the game (v Leicester) and was strong in the duels, he kept the ball well and gave us time to prepare for the next action. I have been happy with him.”
Buckley a big player for Wednesday
He might only be on loan but Buckley can be an extremely big player for Wednesday this season.
As Rohl has explained, he’s very strong on the ball and has lots of energy to bring to the team.
The chances of signing Buckley permanently might be slim from Wednesday’s point of view.
He has a contract at Ewood Park until 2027 and it looks unlikely they’ll let him leave permanently.
As a result, Wednesday will simply need to enjoy him whilst they have him and Rohl will be determined to make him a better player.
Buckley is now likely to feature more as a six for the Owls and it will be interesting to see how he goes in that role.
He does have a strong set of skills for that role and this is a fine example of Rohl using his skills as a coach to maximum effect.
