Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl is yet to take a look at Liam Palmer since he took over at Hillsborough. Now, with Callum Paterson suspended next time out, he simply has to recall him to the team.
Palmer’s omission from the team has been hard enough to fathom. Not having him in the squad on certain occasions has been pretty astonishing given the club’s plight.
On Saturday, Palmer did return to the bench for Wednesday. Clearly, Rohl isn’t really fancying him for whatever reason but now looks like the perfect chance to unleash him back into the team.
Rohl has to recall Palmer for Birmingham game
Nobody will be feeling the hurt of the current plight at Hillsborough more than Palmer. As a result, it’s now time for Rohl to give his vice-captain the chance to establish himself in the team again.
Cut Palmer open and the blue and white of Sheffield Wednesday would pour out in bucket loads. He’s exactly the type of player that the Owls need in their current situation and he won’t shirk any responsibility.
Palmer has made 407 appearances for Wednesday during his career. He’s not had many occasions where he’s been out of the side and he’s currently facing a fight to get a shirt back.
Palmer now deserves Wednesday chance
The 32-year-old should come into Rohl’s thinking for the next game. Paterson played as the right-sided wing-back on Saturday and picked up a fifth yellow card of the season.
Palmer played in that position on some occasions under Darren Moore when he was at Wednesday and he’s a player that could star there should Rohl decide to recall him.
The Owls aren’t just losing games, they’re capitulating. The team looked desperately void of leaders on Saturday and with that in mind, Palmer has to get his Wednesday place back for the next game.
