Danny Rohl has been praised for doing the impossible at Sheffield Wednesday.
Sheffield Wednesday scooped up their fifth win in six games last night as they narrowly beat Plymouth Argyle, with a goal from Djeidi Gassama on the hour mark.
Ian Poveda initially thought he had opened the scoring but was refused his first goal for the club by the offside flag, before Ike Ugbo’s hard work went onto earn him an assist in what has been a brilliant month for the forward.
The Owls also picked up their fourth clean sheet in a month and have now gone level on points with QPR, Huddersfield and Stoke City.
It is a huge leap from the side that looked destined for relegation way back in October, with the club sitting on nine defeats from the first 12 games after Danny Rohl‘s first match in charge.
The German coach has gradually turned things around at Hillsborough though, and after a brilliant December period seeing them go close to creeping out of the relegation zone, they now look on course to finally do it in the coming weeks.
The Yorkshire outfit could even end up closing in on a top half finish if they keep up this form, with only six points between 12th and 23rd place.
After a ‘cracking’ win over Plymouth, journalist Joe Crann has hailed Danny Rohl for doing something that didn’t seem ‘possible’ at the start of his tenure.
He wrote on X: “2.26am and just finished my coverage of #SWFC’s win over Plymouth… Huge win, some cracking performances once again, and Danny Röhl is getting more out of this group than seemed possible back in October. Brilliant to see how far they’ve come. Two massive months ahead.”

When Danny Rohl arrived at Sheffield Wednesday, they had already conceded three or more goals in a game on three occasions and had managed two clean sheets – both in 0-0 stalemates.
It certainly hasn’t been an easy ride for the 34-year-old, with the club going onto left in three or more goals in another six times, but there has been obvious improvements, both on and off the pitch.
Many of the players have already declared their love and appreciation for Rohl, and when the players really want to play for the manager, it makes all the difference.
Sheffield Wednesday now look extremely likely to stay up, despite being written off only months into the season.
Many fans outside of Sheffield won’t recognise how big of an achievement this is, but it will be pretty obvious from the amount of interest it will generate in Danny Rohl.
That is obviously far from what supporters want, but the German certainly knows he is growing something here at Hillsborough and he will surely want to be a part of it.
However, tough fixtures against Leeds United and Ipswich Town are coming up, and things can change very quickly in the Championship.
