Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer has tipped the club to offload this in demand attacker in January.
Sheffield Wednesday wasted no time in clearing their books at the start of the month, offloading both John Buckley and Tyreeq Bakinson.
And more look set to follow with the likes of Jeff Hendrick tipped to potentially return to Newcastle United.
This transfer window precedes a summer of potentially huge changes at Hillsborough with the Owls currently having a horde of first-team players out of contract in the summer; the list includes names like Barry Bannan, Liam Palmer, Will Vaulks, and striker Josh Windass.
Windass, 30, has seen links to Argentina reignite this month, with interest said to be coming from Europe and the MLS as well.
And Palmer thinks interest from the States in particular could be appealing to Wednesday’s play-off final hero.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said on Windass to the MLS:
“Apparently he’s been offered a new contract but is yet to put pen to paper. He could sign a pre-contract deal outside of England.
“Josh has been very influential for Sheffield Wednesday, scoring 12 times last season, including the winner in the play-off final. But he’s struggled with injuries over the last two seasons. As much as he’s been influential, he has missed a lot of football matches.
“There is interest from the MLS, which I know will interest Josh due to his American girlfriend. But I’m sure that Danny Rohl would be keen to keep a player of his calibre and have him around the dressing room.
“If they can’t tie him down to a new deal this month, in my opinion they’ll have to let him go and get a fee for him instead of letting him leave on a free transfer.”
Windass may holds all the cards here
Someone with Windass’ experience and ability will always be vital for Sheffield Wednesday, especially given their current league predicament.
Palmer says that the club have offered him a new deal and that tells us that Rohl feels Windass is a useful player for this season and next season at least.
But Windass appears to hold all the cards now.
There’s no shortage of interest in him and with his current deal set to expire in the summer, he can secure a pre-contract agreement, which would leave Sheffield Wednesday in a difficult position.
Rohl might not favour a player who he knows has already opted to go elsewhere in the summer, and from a financial point of view, it would then make sense to sell Windass now instead of releasing him for nothing in the summer.
So it’s certainly a difficult one. But Windass may yet feel some allegiance and loyalty to Sheffield Wednesday having been with the club through some ups and downs, and his staying would surely bolster Wednesday’s survival bid.
