Sheffield Wednesday have finally appointed a Head of Recruitment.
It seems an age ago since David Downes left Sheffield Wednesday, dropping down to League One to join Blackpool despite the Owls’ promotion to the Championship.
It left Sheffield Wednesday without a recruitment chief last summer, with the Owls going about their business messily and without any kind of planning.
Subsequently, the Owls have struggled in the Championship and look destined for an immediate return to League One.
But Danny Rohl‘s arrival as manager has given the fans a new belief, and the recent appointment of Kevin Beadell as Head of Recruitment adds to that belief.
Joe Crann ‘really pleased’ with Beadell appointment
Beadell brings with him more than 20 years of experience of working in recruitment.
He was with Manchester United for almost a decade, working at the club during a hugely successful era under Sir Alex Ferguson before joining Arsenal.
Beadell even spent a brief time as Head of Recruitment at the Emirates before holding the same position at Cardiff City for three years.
Now at Sheffield Wednesday, the appointment comes just in time for what is a crucial January transfer window for Sheffield Wednesday, and journalist Joe Crann is delighted with the appointment.

A crucial two months ahead for the Owls
January may well define Sheffield Wednesday’s fortunes this season.
Right now, after a positive last week, Sheffield Wednesday have certainly given themselves a chance, but with 10 points to make up and the likes of QPR picking up points of late, the task remains an uphill one.
Adding quality in January then seems key to Sheffield Wednesday maintaining any kind of form going forward.
There’s plenty of positions to bolster but how much funding Rohl and Beadell will actually have remains to be seen.
But with Beadell in place, and with Rohl clearly having had a say in his appointment, it seems like this January window will be much more defined and fluid than the summer was.
Expect Beadell and Rohl to work closely on finding the areas which need to be improved and then improving them.
And now it seems like Rohl has put together a backroom team to his liking; it’ll give his the comfortability to go on and implement his ideas, and rare praise is owed to Dejphon Chansiri for facilitating it.
Sheffield Wednesday next go up against Stoke City in the Championship this weekend.
The Potters have dropped down to 20th after a run of three-straight defeats with Alex Neil’s side now winless in five, making for another crucial match for both sides on Saturday.
