Sheffield Wednesday and their new-look management team succumbed to a 1-0 loss at Watford on Saturday.
Sheffield Wednesday, in Danny Rohl’s first game at the helm, lost 1-0 away at Watford in the Championship on Saturday.
It was an improved performance from the Owls with Rohl making a few changes to the usual line up and to the system that the players played in.
There was more energy, more possession, and more shots than the club have been accustomed to this season, so there’s definite signs that Rohl can make some hasty improvements to the team.
And Chris Powell, who has recently joined the coaching staff at Hillsborough, has urged the club to have patience with Rohl.
He’s quoted by Yorkshire Live as saying:
“He [Röhl] is a young coach who wants to improve the team and improve himself. I really like the way that he goes about his work. I think he can make a real good mark here.
“We have got to be patient with him. It’s his first time as a head coach but he has been over here before for a short while with Southampton. Hopefully I can help him and his staff assimilate and get used to the way it is in the Championship.
“It’s a very demanding league but I am pleased to come and help and lend my experience to Danny, his team and more importantly the football club.”
Patience required with Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday…
Dejphon Chansiri and Sheffield Wednesday have certainly taken a risk by appointing Rohl.
He’s an unknown quantity, coming into an extremely difficult job at an extremely difficult time, with a long and difficult road ahead of the Owls are to beat the drop this season.
But in this current predicament, Wednesday don’t have too much to lose. Chansiri deserves praise for giving Rohl a decent-looking backroom team, but like Powell says, patience is required.
Rohl may not be able to deliver results soon, if at all this season. But we definitely look set to see an improved side and in the long run, many are backing Rohl to be a success to Hillsborough.
