The situation at Sheffield Wednesday has been slammed by West Bromwich Albion winger Jed Wallace. The player has been discussing the developments on Dejphon Chansiri during a recent interview.
Wednesday were defeated 1-0 by Bristol City on Saturday. A Rob Dickie goal compounded the Owls to yet another defeat and that leaves them at the bottom of the Championship.
Barry Bannan was sent off at Ashton Gate. Wednesday couldn’t build on last weekend’s first victory of the campaign at home to Rotherham United.
Wallace slams Wednesday owner
It’s fair to say that the experienced Championship performer thinks that things are seriously wrong at Hillsborough. In fairness to Wallace, he makes some valid points about Wednesday.
He said on Football Daily 72+: “The fans are paying their money travelling up and down the country every week to watch their team lose at the moment. He’s acting like he is doing everyone a favour, the chairman.
“Ultimately, when you take on a football club, that’s the responsibility that comes with it. It just doesn’t help the players, the feeling around the place in general. Even the situation with Marvin Johnson- like, what’s going on with him?
“It’s like something out of Eastenders what is going on there, it’s ridiculous! Hopefully, now it can settle down with the new, young manager but he needs stability.”
Wednesday facing a real fight this season
Wallace is right; the situation at Sheffield Wednesday right now is a complete an utter mess. This isn’t how it should have been after promotion and Chansiri is largely to blame.
Saturday’s result leaves the Owls nine points from safety. One saving grace for Wednesday could be that a few teams are struggling right now and hopefully some good results can be forthcoming.
Wallace is currently a regular in the West Brom team. Under Carlos Corberan, they’re eyeing a tilt at the play-offs this season and they will fancy their chances.
For Wednesday, any season that doesn’t end in an instant return to League One would now represent a successful one for Danny Rohl.
