Carlton Palmer has told TalkSPORT that three Sheffield Wednesday stars are tailor-made to play Championship football. Furthermore, he genuinely believes that the Owls could complete a second successive promotion on one condition next season.
Wednesday have done it! They finally reclaimed their place back in the Championship on Monday by beating Barnsley in the League One Play-Off Final at Wembley.
Josh Windass scored the game’s only goal. He powered a header beyond Harry Isted in the final minute of stoppage time at the end of extra time, following some good work by Lee Gregory.
The 29-year-old is one of the current Wednesday crop that Palmer believes will do well next season. He’s also namechecked two other stars who he thinks are more than capable of taking the second tier by storm during 2023/24.
He told TalkSPORT (31/05; 10:20): “Darren Moore is in a unique position. Barry Bannan, Josh Windass and Liam Palmer are all Championship players. Those three will be absolutely fine.
“Also, if you look at the second tier, with five games to go this season, 13 teams could still get in the play-offs. If they can recruit well I think they could go again. Let’s have a bit of excitement and a bit of belief back at Sheffield Wednesday.”

It’s fair to say that the man who spent nine years with Wednesday has a point. Bannan, Windass and Palmer should all be very capable when it comes to playing at the next level.
All three of the players have featured in the second tier before. The challenge for Wednesday will be adding more quality around those three to ensure a successful campaign.
The Owls will look back on the play-off campaign with a great deal of pride. Their remarkable turnaround from 4-0 down in the first leg will be forever remembered and now they have a Wembley win too.
Tipping Wednesday to go again is bold. The Championship will be extremely strong next season and a lot will depend on who arrives at Hillsborough during the transfer window.
With over 30,000 set to back Wednesday at home, the first port of call will be to make Hillsborough a fortress. If they can do that then perhaps Moore can enjoy a campaign competing for a play-off place in the second tier.
