Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer thinks Slaven Bilic would be ‘an excellent appointment’ for the Owls.
Sheffield Wednesday remain without a manager after Darren Moore’s shock exit last month. The players have since returned for pre-season training where the club’s sports science team are leading preparations, as owner Dejphon Chansiri works on finding the club’s next boss.
Several names have so far been linked with the Hillsborough vacancy. Last week though, Alan Nixon revealed his private Twitter account (via FLW) that former West Ham, West Brom, and Watford boss Bilic, 54, is among those being considered by Chansiri.
And speaking to Football League World about the cub’s links to Bilic, former Wednesday favourite Palmer had this to say:
“Slaven Bilic’s name has joined the long list of names being linked with the Sheffield Wednesday job. Slaven has plenty of Championship experience, guiding West Brom to the Premier League. I think Slaven would be an excellent appointment.
“The problem is all the managers who have been linked with the job with the credentials to do well I think would have reservations of working under the current owner and chairman.
“However, Bilic did take the Watford job under similar circumstances and we all saw how that played out.”
Slaven Bilic to take charge at Sheffield Wednesday?
Bilic has the experience and the charisma to be a good fit for Sheffield Wednesday. Wherever he goes, he leaves as a favoured name among fans – even at Watford despite his brief tenure, fans recognised that he did a decent job, especially after seeing how much Chris Wilder struggled afterwards.
Like Palmer says though, tempting a good manager to Sheffield Wednesday is going to be difficult given the unrest, and the apparent difficult of working with Chansiri.
Bilic took on the Watford job knowing how ruthless the owners are, though, so it wouldnt be all that surprising if Bilic took on another challenge at Hillsborough.
Time is running out for Sheffield Wednesday to find Moore’s replacement before the start of next season.
