Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer has urged the Owls to avoid signing this one linked player.
Sheffield Wednesday look set to make some last-minute deals in the January transfer window, and they certainly need to.
Danny Rohl has only managed to bring in two players this month but his side continue to be linked with potential new signings.
And one who’s been linked this week is Jordan Jones; the Wigan Athletic and Northern Ireland winger is out of contract in the summer and it was recently revealed by HITC that Sheffield Wednesday are rivalling Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town for his signing.

But former Owls midfielder Palmer believes Sheffield Wednesday can do better than Jones; he thinks that Jones wouldn’t benefit the club in their quest for Championship survival this season.
Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said:
“Jones is performing well in League One for Wigan, but the Championship is a different ball game as we have seen with the Owls this season.
“Yes, he would be a good player for the Owls in League One should they not retain their status in the Championship, but I’m not convinced this is the type of signing that is going to make Sheffield Wednesday better in their quest for survival.
“Obviously, signings are dictated by what you can afford to pay, but Danny Rohl has shown in his limited time that he has been manager what he is capable of doing, and I hope the chairman backs him with the quality of player he needs because if he does, I can see the Owls staying up.
“Time is running out and they need to act fast, and it is a gamble bringing in quality players in the position that they are in, but they’ve got to back the manager and have faith in him that he can deliver and keep them up.”
Jones, 29, has featured 17 times in League One this season, scoring twice and assisting four more for a Wigan Athletic side who currently sit in 11th place of the table.
Sheffield Wednesday can do better, but times are hard
Many might agree with Palmer’s take on Jones.
Although he’s an experienced player who’s enjoying a decent season with Wigan in League One, it doesn’t seem like Jones would really improve Sheffield Wednesday and give them the edge in their quest for survival.
Rohl has names like Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama on the flanks; whilst both remain quite raw, they’re both rapidly improving, so fand might want to see Rohl persist with these two and give them as much game time as possible.
Another name on the flanks might be useful and someone with Jones’ experience could compliment the likes of Musaba and Gassama.
But with what is no doubt a limited budget, Wednesday should maybe look to bolster elsewhere; a striker or a holding midfielder seems like more of a priority right now.
Sheffield Wednesday return to action against Coventry City in the FA Cup fourth round tonight, with kick off at 7:45pm at Hillsborough.
